Hon. Minister Rwanyindo meets AU Youth Volunteers Corps

On 04th October, 2018,  Hon. Rwanyindo Kayirangwa Fanfan , Minister of Public Service and Labour, met  the 9th Cohort of the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AU-YVC) who are in Kigali, Rwanda for a pre-deployment training on volunteerism and to attend the Youth Connekt Africa Summit to be held from 8th  to 10th  October 2018.  
The  two week pre-redeployment training on volunteerism brings together 90 young professionals from 45 AU Member States. 
Hon. Rwanyindo presented on the labour mobility framework in Africa and the benefits of efficient labour mobility governance in Africa.
 “Labour mobility enhances skills and competencies of people to access employment opportunities in Africa and beyond, and promotes opportunities for both youth and women that are most engaged in labour migration. Through efficient labour migration governance,  decent and productive employment opportunities can be secured in conditions of freedom, equity, security and human dignity.” Disclosed Hon. Rwanyindo.
She reiterated further that through their labour, migrant workers contribute to growth and development of both  their countries of origin through, among others,   increased remittances and skills and knowledge transfer  and for countries of destination through bridging skills gaps and technology transfer and  promoting cultural diversity, among others.
Minister Rwanyindo urged the  African youth to be pro-active  and efficient where they will be working and urged them to always uphold their African  dignity and values.
Noting  the  protocol allowing for free movement of people, the right to live and right of establishment in Africa that was signed by African Countries at the  10th Extraordinary Summit of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government held on 21st  March 2018, in Kigali, Minister Rwanyindo reiterated that political will make labour mobility a success.
The Youth Volunteer Corps was launched in December 2010 in Abuja-Nigeria. It is in line with the African Youth Charter as well as the Decision of the AU Heads of State and Government in Assembly/AU/Dec.274 (XVI) January 2010, to set up a Continental Volunteer Initiative.
The African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AU-YVC) pre-deployment training held from 24th September 2018 will end on 10th October, 2018 with the YouthConnekt Africa Summit.
