ILO Regional Director for Africa pays a courtesy call on Minister Rwanyindo

On Wednesday 22nd August, 2018 Cynthia Samuel-Olonjuwon, the International Labour Organisation (ILO) Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Africa paid a courtesy call on Hon. Minister of Public Service and Labour, Rwanyindo Kayirangwa Fanfan. 

Cynthia Samuel-Olonjuwon was accompanied by the Director for The ILO Country office for United Republic of Tanzania, Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, Mr. Chibebe Wellington and 2 members of ILO Office in Rwanda. 

Their discussions were centered on social protection, promotion of decent work especially the Decent Work Country Programme. 

Assistant Director General and Regional Director for Africa commended the Government of Rwanda for achievements recorded by the Country under the Leadership of H.E. Paul Kagame. 

Ms. Cynthia also talked about major events on the ILO Agenda including the launch of the future of work report and Africa Regional Meeting on employment slated for next year where she called upon participation of all African Countries members of the ILO. 

The Minister of Public Service and Labour, thanked the visiting delegation for the continued support and partnership between Rwanda and ILO and reiterated the commitment of the Government of Rwanda to promote and ensure respect of all fundamental principles and rights at work.

 

Hon. Rwanyindo expressed expectations by the Government from the ongoing Decent Work Project implemented by ILO in the framework of supporting Rwanda job creation interventions. 

In 2017 Rwanda was elected to be a Member of the International Labour Organisation Governing Body for a 3 year term (2017-2020).  The Governing Body is the Executive Organ of the ILO. The Governing Body is responsible for taking decision on all ILO Policies, adopting ILO Programs and Budget; electing the Director-General of ILO, appointing commissions of inquiry, supervising the work of the International Labour Office and requesting information from member states concerning labour matters, among others.
